The foundations of Korean society are breaking down from its bottom. Korea is replete with corruption more severely than ever, a ghost of self-righteousness is hovering over it, and creativity and liberty of individuals and organizations are restricted by distorted zeal of equality and collectivism. Our society that we have founded after going through the imperialist rule of Japan and the tragedy of the Korean War is shaking from the bottom due to the confusion of ideology, poverty of philosophy, and deficiency of principles.

In the era of global economic war, the government is executing policies that disturb normal functions of market while shouting its commitment to free market. The government's economic policies that should guarantee freedom and competition of every body of society have fallen into the victim of the narrow interests of every interest group. As a result, national economy is in danger and many citizens have lost their jobs.

We make a declaration of the foundation of Citizens United for a Better Society in the conviction that these disastrous situations should not be left alone and it is ordinary citizens who can break through these deadlocks. In the history of man we can see that a free and rich nation is not formed and maintained automatically. But it is possible only when the nation makes every effort to keep the ideas of liberalism and the orders of democracy.

For the prosperity of the Koreans and a happy life of every citizen, above all, proper free market system and democracy should be realized first. Therefore we will campaign for the building-up of free economy and democracy against false ideologies and misguided policies. We will explore a bright future of our nation by standing together with all the civic groups and citizens who support our causes.

We appeal to all the citizens who agree with our ideas of constructing a prosperous future with our own hands overcoming confusion and disorder. Citizens who are concerned with today's dark reality! Let's open a prosperous future for Korea by joining with Citizens United for a Better Society trying to build up a base of a trustworthy society through sowing a seed of hope on the land of distrust.
