Stop Killing Job Opportunities
Does Political Basket Lead to Economic Basket?

" I was surprised that an impeachment motion was passed in Korea's National Assembly and, in addition, prompt following protests against the impeachment reminded me of France and Italy's cases in the past," which I heard from a German economic mogul when I attended an international conference held Bangkok, Thailand.

While, in the wake of World War II, France and Italy had to face sluggish economic growth and soaring employment rates for a while because of frequent political shifts, numerous coups, and endless public protests, Germany, on contrary, achieved 'The Miracle of the Rhine' thanks to stable political environments during the same period.

I assume that this economic figure from Germany may have thought that Korea would likely waste its national energy for development due to structural social conflicts and divisions, political underdevelopment-under which, there is no compromise, only fighting-and confronting relations between labor and management. "Korea is political basket case", an executive officer from one of major international credit ratings agencies said. This comment may be in the same line with such perspective as well.

The national image viewed in the eyes of global figures is very important because it is indispensable to create and keep alliances and networking with international companies and attract them to make investment in domestic market. Namely, considering they equip themselves with cutting-edged technology, up-to-date management techniques, superior R&D capacity and international sale's network, it is no doubt that they can make great influences in increasing job opportunity in Korea and achieving economic growth especially based on its own economic competitiveness.

We should clam down and back on the track as soon as possible. Above all, intellectuals within political and social communities should lead such mood and be aware that either making a use of such chaotic situation for their political interests or stimulating people's anxiety will prolong the national crisis and dampen industrial investment initiatives in economy. Consequently, it will kill job opportunities of Korean workers.

Also, it is a nation of Korea to roll up its sleeves to prevent any actions taken to thwart its job opportunities. On top of that, mass media, especially TV, should play a role as sorts of a guider to help Korean people advance into mature democratic citizens, who can observe social norms, laws, and social orders with international eyes

Unfortunately, it is true that a majority of lawmakers, who were elected by us, passed the impeachment bill, isn't it? Now, it is time to wait the decision of the Constitutional Court in accordance with democratic constitution.

If we overcome political difficulties this time amid international attention, we can, looking on the bright side, rather turn this crisis as an opportunity to improve our national image in international community. It is just to show national efforts of developing now callow democracy into decent democracy by using our mature citizenship. We have achieved a number of things, which, others thought, were impossible.

In particular, in the early 1980s, worldly-known scholars and international community, including major aid countries, treated Korea as economic basket case. However, we achieved 'The Miracle of Han River', which is one of the best examples that we surprised the world.

Let's reject any action of deepening social conflicts and prolonging the political disorder and keep constitutional order. In doing so, let's prove that Korea is not political basket case to global community.
