Three generations love makes a better society
“Discount for those dining out with three generations: grand parents, parents, and children!” In July 20, representatives of Catholic, Buddhists, and the Citizens United For Better Society and the Jongno Municipal District officials held the inauguration of the first restaurant, which will offer the “Discount for Three Generations.” The Discount for Three Generations Campaign is gaining the momentum among the congregation of the Catholic and Buddhists.
The Discount for Three Generations Campaign is aiming to consolidate the family bond and nurturing the respect for the elders through the dinning out among the three generations of family, which is increasingly rare and seldom since the advent of the nuclear family. At the moment, 11 restaurants in the Jongno district honor the campaign and offer special discounts of 10-30%. More restaurants are expected to join the campaign. The campaigners want to extend the discount benefits to the old palaces, museum, amusement park, and movie theaters.
Sohn Byung-Du, a former vice president of the Federation of Korean Industries, has taken up the president of Catholic Lay Apostolate Council of Korea, is campaigning “Beautiful Family and Beautiful Society,” seeking the interaction with other religions.
“Alarming statistics such as the highest divorce rate in the world and 4,000 abortions per day indicate that Korean family is heading toward crisis and the ethic and moral value of the Korean society is on the fire.” said Mr. Son. He went on to say, “the religion should take a lead this campaign as an effort to reach out and cure the dysfunctional society.” Campaigners agree that Yoo Young-Chul, the hideous serial killer who has allegedly killed some twenty people, is thought to be a monster born out of the dysfunctional family.
Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism eagerly supported Catholic’s campaign. “We’re planning to find an infrastructure for the campaign with Protestants,” said Choi Yeon, the chairman of policy committee of association of central congregation.
Catholic Congregation Association of Lay Believers pronounced everyday night 10 o’clock as family pray time and distributed 200 thousands of Family Prayer. “The campaign is gaining a positive reputation as the additional orders for the Prayer is in demand,” said Woo Jae-Chul Secretary General of Catholic Congregation Association of Lay Believers. The organization is also planning on to send text messages about family love with help of mobile communication company.
The three religions, Buddhism, Protestant, and Catholic, are planning to hold the Symposium on the Making a Beautiful Family Together symposium in this mid-November.
